Family Back Garden near Alexandra Palace.
A curved lawn with interlocking planting beds give this mid terrace, family garden an informal formality. The clients were particularly keen to learn about gardening and it was a pleasure to pack the beds with robust planting. For sun: Veronicastrum virginicum ‘Lavendelturm’, Stipa tenuissima, Sedum Autumn Joy and Penstemon Garnett. On the shade side Melica altissima Alba and Sesleria autumnalis grasses are laced with Cenolophium denudatum, and Geraniums, Mrs Kendal Clark and Rozanne. A multi-stem Betula utilis Jacquemontii links to the borrowed view of a row of Betula pendula beyond the boundary. The garden was made on a tight budget and so we reused and stained the panel fencing, adding horizontal trellis for climbers. In time a white Wisteria will grace the corner pergola which will provide shade in summer by day but still catches the last low glimpse of setting sun.
